For those looking for something a little more upscale, there may be no shortage of options, but there is no shortage of buyers either. The first house in the new Stone County development Indian Ridge pre-sold a year ago and almost 150 homes, with prices ranging from $387,000 to $1.86 million, are already sold. It's been done almost entirely on word of mouth, with almost no advertising and the on-site sales office only recently up and running.

The 1,000 acre development in Branson West has all the amenities for the more than 1,000 single-family homes, almost 1,000 condos and townhouses and 300-room resort hotel that will eventually occupy the site:

...an indoor water park that spans about 100,000 square feet, an 18-hole championship-caliber golf course designed by the man who used to design all the courses for golfing legend Hale Irwin, a conference center, spa and marina. Plus, throw in hiking and biking trails and a croquet lawn.

And season in a professional building that will house doctors, dentists and attorneys, as well as a number of places to shop and eat.
